Although much has been made of Sony’s recent resurgence under Sir Howard Stringer, the Tokyo monster may be surprised to learn that it has been toppled as the public’s favourite producer of quality electronics.

Buckyballs power tiny fuel-cell powerhouse
Exotic molecules like carbon buckyballs may soon become part of our everyday lives if the latest prototype fuel cell from Sony ever makes it to the stores.
We recently lifted the lid on just how useful – not to mention pervasive – RFID technology is in Japan, so it’s with a glad heart that we bring you news of a move that’s sure to help it spread more quickly in the West.

LED TVs get boost by dropping organic element

Sony ‘fesses up about new Aibo rumours
It’s been a month since Stuff magazine teased us with that mock-up of what a next-generation Aibo might look like, but we’ve still heard nothing official on the possibility of a return for the robot pet and its new PlayStation interface.
To the surprise of no one, the just-revealed sales figures for games hardware and software in Japan last year underline what a massive 12 months it was for the industry as a whole and Nintendo in particular.

Sony video-sharing site goes high def with set-top box
We recently speculated that YouTube might one day soon be delivering high-definition online video instead of the grainy clips that proliferate now, but Sony Japan’s eyeVio video-sharing site has beaten the Google company to the punch by starting an HD TV service yesterday.

Sony’s a strange company - on the one hand it appears every inch the industry giant striving to return to its former glory yet, on the other, it produces really bizarre products like its latest piece of software that uses Wi-Fi to locate noodle restaurants.
